The Santa Barbara City College Athletic and Physical Education Department would like your support as we seek to replace the artificial turf at La Playa Stadium. It would benefit both the students and community by offering safe accommodations for the thousands who utilize it each week, offer a renewed source of income, and by addressing its increasingly dangerous conditions. 

Aside from our athletics programs, SBCC hosts a number of Physical Education classes on the turf. When it is not being used by SBCC classes or teams, the turf is open for public use. It is also used as a source of income for the college as we frequently rent the facility out to local high schools and community groups. The turf is now 11 years old and is three years past its warranty and lifespan. This renewal initiative has been ongoing for over two years and during that time, the condition of the turf has continued to deteriorate and conditions have become increasingly dangerous.

Unfortunately, the turf project was voted to be put on hold by the SBCC Board of Trustees over the summer by a 4-3 vote. We are asking the Board of Trustees to reconsider their decision at the upcoming December 17th meeting. This petition is a sign of solidarity and support in favor of a new turf at La Playa Stadium. We greatly appreciate your signature as we strive to create facilities for our students and community that are safe and that we can take pride in.
