SB636: Protect Pets Left in Hot Vehicles
This petition had 17,477 supporters
Far too many pets, service animals, and working animals are dying at the hands of their owners by leaving them in a hot vehicle. Please help make this offense against the law by asking our lawmakers to help pass SB 636! Pennsylvania currently has no laws to protect dogs or cats left in hot vehicle, nor does it obligate law enforcement to rescue them from a deadly situation.
The Motor Vehicle Extreme Heat Protection Act — SB636, if the bill becomes law, leaving a dog or cat in a hot vehicle will become a summary offense. But officers won't just be responsible for the charge — they will be responsible for saving the pet's life.
In a matter of 10 minutes, in 80 degree heat but in a shaded area a car can reach 99 degrees. That rushes to 109 degrees within 20 minutes and 114 degrees in thirty minutes, according to a memorandum supporting the bill.
Please sign this petition to make an impact on the voting of our PA State Representatives...and maybe they will encourage their co-voters to do the same.
