For MHS students only‼️

My name is Addison Moreland and I’m a Junior at Marietta High School. Our superintendent, Dr. Grant Rivera, is pushing for the use of Yondr cellphone pouches in our schools. This initiative doesn't only limit our communication, but creates an unrealistically controlled environment for high school aged students, as well as serious safety and health risks. 

These pouches lock up our phones and limit our access to immediate communication, information which is a critical aspect of modern education, and puts us at risk in the event of medical or emergency incidents. If something were to happen, I need to know that I can reach my family members, if necessary.

When used responsibly cellphones have broad educational value in classroom settings, and students are even required to use their cellphones in a variety of classes, such as journalism, yearbook, science, etc. 

We as students at Marietta High School oppose Superintendent Rivera's cellphone lockup initiative and call upon him and the Marietta City School Board of Education to reconsider this policy and take into account students' health and family communication necessities, as well as the educational opportunities smartphones provide.
