Say NO to 'Wholly-Owned Subsidiary' at Chesterfield Royal Hospital NHS Foundation Trust.

Chesterfield Royal are working on setting up a 'Wholly-owned subsidiary' (private company) owned by the Trust which they plan on transferring 800 hard working staff into and out of the NHS. Defended by the Trust as 'an alternative model of outsourcing' this is in reality privatisation by the back door.

The Trust is working on the business case to go to board in July 2018 at which point the decision will be made whether to carry on with the company or drop the proposals. If agreed the current timescales would mean implementation in early November 2018.

Whilst the Trust has put forward some guarantees for existing staff (TUPE), they will lose NHS employee status on transfer and new starters are likely to be on worse terms and conditions as has been the case at all bar one similar private companies established by other health trusts.

We call for:

Chesterfield Royal Hospital NHS Foundation Trust to reject the proposals to set up a ‘Wholly-owned Company’ to cover the areas affected.


Oppose the creation of a two-tier workforce through new starters being employed on worse pay, terms or conditions, or attacks on those of existing staff.
