Say No to the Proposed Skateboard Park at Old Ridge Park!
The Issue
Dear Neighbours and Concerned Citizens,
We, the undersigned, express our deep sense of concern and unite against the proposed changes to our beloved Old Ridge Park, situated near Postmaster Ridge, Historic Trail Rd and Early Settler Row. City planners have suggested the introduction of a Skateboard Park in this serene historical area. We believe this decision poses a threat to the safety, tranquility, sledding hill and environmental harmony of our community.
SAFETY FIRST
Our apprehension stems from the fact that the proposed skateboard park is nestled along the Y-path that is frequently used by those of all ages including children, families, seniors and those walking their dogs. This is the path that connects parks, communities, the tennis court and schools. The two paths are on a hill and one of the paths leading to the proposed skateboard park is particularly steep, possessing a blind corner which raises significant safety concerns. Presently, we already have a number of safety issues with this steep path as it is a common trail for accidents on bikes, scooters and skateboards. Skateboarders descending the path will pose a major hazard, potentially leading to serious accidents due to speed and limited visibility.
PROTECT THE ENVIRONMENT
Beyond safety, the introduction of a skateboard park threatens to destroy the peace and serenity of this historical area near to Meadowvale Conservation Park. The destruction of green space will disrupt the habitat of local wildlife, including deer and other animals and the serene peaceful atmosphere that defines our neighbourhood. Old Ridge Park is an essential part of our ecosystem, and we must act to preserve it.
SAVE OUR SLEDDING HILL
The proposed plan would destroy our sledding path on the hill. This is a cherished winter activity spot for neighborhood kids, and is at risk of being eliminated, denying them the joy of winter fun.
JOIN US
We urge you to join us in opposing the skateboard park proposal by signing this petition. We need to submit this petition by February 29th and we need to act now as a community.
Let's protect Old Ridge Park, maintain the safety of our paths and community, protect the serenity and environment and save our sledding hill!
