SAY NO TO THE LIE REST STOP IN HHH/DIX HILLS/COMMACK

SAY NO TO THE LIE REST STOP IN HHH/DIX HILLS/COMMACK
The Issue
The NYS Department of Transportation is proceeding with their plan to construct a rest stop and welcome center on the Long Island Expressway, between Deer Park Ave and Commack Road. (exits 51-52) Anyone living in the area knows that there is no need for a rest stop with Lodging, gas and food in abundance at these exits. This has been opposed by the taxpayers, but still they are proceeding, without giving an opportunity to the residents in the area to be heard. It was only learned that the DOT was moving ahead with their plans when residents noticed that healthy trees, that were once a buffer between their homes and the LIE, were being knocked down. Our State Representatives were not even aware of the DOT plans and had to learn about it from the complaints of their constituents. Plans were halted for a short time but once again the DOT, without notice, without hearing the concerns of the taxpayers that will be affected, are moving ahead with the project with ZERO input from the surrounding community! Their plans include parking for well over 100 cars, 24/7 overhead lighting, and a welcome center selling items from NY, which may or may not include WINE. (According to a Newsday Article, which seems to be our only source of information)
