RE: Division of Etobicoke Centre and Removal of York South Weston.
This petition is being prepared by Roman Botiuk, BA LLB, a lawyer living in Etobicoke Centre and practicing in the City of Toronto, and is not endorsed by any politician or candidate from any party.
It is respectfully submitted that democracy demands that Etobicoke Centre not be divided, that the communities on each bank of the Humber River, and there are multiple, yet nevertheless very different and disparate, communities, ought not be forced into a shotgun marriage, and finally, that York South Weston ought to continue to exist, and not be subsumed into other ridings or eliminated at all.
The people of Etobicoke Center and York South Weston deserve to have their voice heard - splitting them up not only dilutes that voice but impacts the very real - and very different- voices of the people on the east and west sides of the Humber. The river is a real barrier and the communities on either side of it are completely different in nearly every way. By pushing them together in some arranged marriage is a path to failure as neither community on the east or west side will get the representation each community deserves.
Further, it is just plain unreasonable for the growing City of Toronto to lose a seat. It just simply does not make sense.
The differences in the demographics on either side of the Humber River could not be more stark or self-explanatory:.

It is therefore respectfully submitted that:
1, the eastern boundary of Etobicoke Centre should continue to be the Humber River;
2, that all of the communities on each bank of the Humber River are entitled to full and meaningful, and not diluted, democratic representation; and
3, York South Weston must continue to exist.
