Say NO to the Data Center on Euharlee Rd.
The Issue
On December 15th, Bartow County will hold a public hearing to determine if Atlas Development may obtain a conditional permit to build a 260,000 sq ft data center on what is currently agricultural land. This development not only poses a threat to the environment but also to the health and well-being of our community members.
The proximity of this data center to our homes raises severe concerns regarding noise pollution and the heat generated by the exhaustive electrical requirements of such facilities. Data centers often consume an excessive amount of electricity, leading to higher local demand and potential power shortages—a factor that worries our community greatly, considering our already strained power resources.
Moreover, the environmental impact cannot be underestimated. Data centers require vast amounts of water for cooling, even with "closed loop" systems, which could deplete our local water supplies, affecting agricultural activities and daily life. Additionally, the increase in air pollution due to diesel generators used during power outages would further degrade air quality, posing health risks to the young, elderly, and individuals with respiratory issues.
Our landscapes, home to various wildlife, also stand at risk of destruction or alteration, threatening local biodiversity. Destruction of these green spaces—necessary for our climate's health and our mental well-being—would leave an irrevocable scar on our county’s cherished environment.
We propose an immediate denial to the rezoning of the proposed land at 208 and 329 Stiles Rd as well as the building permit, conditional or otherwise to Atlas Development.
