Dear community,
The crematorium application will be presented to Mayor and Council at the council meeting on Monday April 14, 2025.
The purpose of the April 14 presentation is to determine whether Mayor and Council would like Staff to continue advancing the application or to kill it.
If the decision is to kill the application, it will go no further.
If the decision is to advance the application, it will be brought back at a future date for first and second reading. At that point, it will be almost impossible to stop the application.
OUR ONLY CHANCE TO STOP THE CREMATORIUM: CONVINCE MAYOR AND COUNCIL TO KILL THE APPLICATION ON MONDAY APRIL 14.
The April 14 meeting is not a public hearing so feedback/comments will not be heard. However, the public can attend - please attend to show Mayor and Council how much opposition there is.
Also, PLEASE WRITE TO MAYOR AND COUNCIL THIS WEEK so that our opposition is at the front of their minds on April 14.
For your convenience, you can copy and paste the following:
Dear Mayor, Councillors, and City Staff,
I remain extremely opposed the the crematorium. The Public Information Meeting that was held on January 28 was a farce. It's obvious that the developer has no intention of working with the public or City Staff, and what little information the developer has provided is highly inaccurate and potentially false.
The development application will be presented to Mayor and Council on Monday April 14. I urge you to direct staff to terminate work on the development application.
In the meantime, please provide responses to the following four questions as soon as possible:
Why is the crematorium and funeral home being located in a residential and ecologically sensitive area?
Why is it not being located in the industrial area of the Anniedale-Tynehead NCP?
If it can’t be located in the industrial area of Anniedale-Tynehead, why is it not being located in one of the many other industrial areas in Surrey (Campbell Heights Business Park, South Westminster and Bridgeview Industrial Areas, Port Kells Industrial Area, Newton Industrial Areas and Business Parks, Cloverdale Industrial Areas, Rosemary Heights Business Park, Highway 99 Corridor, Douglas Industrial Area)?
Why are other businesses forced to abide by land use regulations and pay high market rates for appropriate land?
Sincerely,
Concerned Surrey Resident
