We thank you for taking time to sign our petition - our signature numbers grow daily - a Permit was granted on the 19th Feb - but there is NO social licence for this project - so we we keep the heat on.
Save Our Seat today announced a new phase of its campaign to protect the Arthurs Seat State Park, following the State Government’s controversial approval of a rollercoaster-style luge.
Our message is simple: planning approval may have been granted, but the fight to stop the luge has only just begun. Since the Government’s decision, we have been buoyed by an extraordinary surge of support from across the community. Long-time residents, local business owners, community groups and visitors have contacted us in growing numbers — all expressing shock and dismay that a rollercoaster could be approved inside a State Park.
That response has strengthened our resolve.
This is no longer just a planning dispute.
It is a battle for the soul of the Mornington Peninsula.
If the Eagle proceeds with this rollercoaster, it will set a dangerous precedent — signalling that no green space on the Peninsula is safe from development. Our immediate focus is urging the Arthurs Seat Eagle to withdraw the luge component of the project. While planning approval has been granted, the Eagle does not have the social licence to proceed.
Moving ahead in the face of sustained community opposition means that any financial gain for the Eagle will be outweighed by lasting reputational damage.
There is still time for the Eagle and its owners to show leadership.
There is still time to choose legacy over controversy.
This conversation is far from over — and neither is this campaign.
