Dear Friends,
We need your support now more than ever. A crucial Greenville County Council meeting is set for Tuesday, February 18 at 6 p.m. at the Greenville County Square (Council Chambers), and your presence is essential. 🙏
At this meeting, an important amendment will be discussed that could safeguard Paris Mountain from high-density development. Currently, a loophole in the Greenville County Zoning Ordinance allows properties zoned ESD-PM (Environmental Sensitive District – Paris Mountain) to revert to R-M (Residential Multifamily) zoning if an access road other than Altamont Road is used. This loophole opens the door to large-scale developments like hotels and high-density housing, which would threaten the character and environmental integrity of our cherished mountain. 🌳🏔️
County Councilman Steve Shaw will be introducing a text amendment to close this loophole. This amendment will go through committee, the planning commission, and require three readings by the full County Council. In the meantime, a pending ordinance would prevent the zoning reversion while the amendment works its way through the process—buying us critical time to ensure Paris Mountain remains protected. ⏳
