Dear Members of Bromley Council and Party Leaders of Bromley,
I am writing on behalf of concerned residents in Orpington and Bromley Borough regarding Bromley Council’s proposal to build a non-public facing municipal warehouse to store Bromleys archives on land within Priory Gardens Park.
We ask that you take a moment to review and understand our community petition opposing the development and calling for a collaborative approach to meet the Council’s storage and archive needs without sacrificing valued parkland, urban openspace.
Priory Gardens is a much-loved and well-used public space – vital for local wellbeing, biodiversity, and the historic character of Orpington itself. Turning part of it into an industrial facility would cause irreversible harm to both the environment and the community.
We fully recognise the Council’s responsibility to provide a secure and efficient archive service. However, we believe there are alternative, more suitable sites across the borough that could meet these operational needs while preserving our shared green space.
We urge you to:
Listen to residents’ concerns and engage directly with our community representatives.
Review the petition and accompanying briefing and report (attached below).
Support an alternative solution that delivers a secure new archive facility without building on Priory Gardens.
Our community stands ready to work constructively with the Council to find a way forward that protects both public services and public space. We forward this information now as we plan to raise our concerns at an appropriate Council Meeting soon and some background information could help with understanding from all perspectives this planning proposal.
Thank you for your time and for your continued service to Bromley residents.
Kind regards,
Caroline Jeffrey
