The Issue

Bay Road and Freewoods Road and Cameron Village subdivision have been a source of continuous frustration and concern for our community due to chronic stormwater drainage issues. For years, these roads have been plagued by flooding during downpours, major tropical storms, and hurricanes. The natural topography simply does not support adequate drainage, making this area a consistent choke point.

The region stretching from Freewoods Rd to Sunnehanna Dr, also known as Island Green, relies heavily on Bay Rd for stormwater discharge. Inadequacies in drainage infrastructure have led to recurring flooding. Most recently, the latest phase of Myrtle Beach Golf & Yacht (MBG&Y), approved by Horry County, has been particularly impacted, suffering from persistent drainage issues.

As residents who experience these challenges firsthand, we must voice our concerns about the proposed rezoning of this area. Rezoning could lead to increased development, exacerbating the existing water drainage issues and putting more homes and livelihoods at risk.

We urge the local government and relevant authorities to reconsider their plans for rezoning this crucial area. Instead, we advocate for investments in improving the drainage system to protect the current residents and their properties.

Please join us in opposing the rezoning of Freewoods Rd/Bay Rd by signing this petition. Together, we stand for a well-planned and safe community that prioritizes the needs of its residents over unchecked development. Your support is crucial in making our voices heard.
