Ruapehu Alpine Lifts Ltd (RAL) are seeking support to obtain a Resource Consent for their Proposal of Building a Gondola provision on Tongariro National Park situated in Whakapapa Ski Fields area.  Are DOC really conservationists???Well not when it comes to our World Heritage National Park.....Reasons to support this petition

Tongariro was gifted to the Crown by Te Heuheu Tūkino IV, for the purpose of preservation for future generations to come and was NZ's first National Park

The park has active and extinct volcanoes and a diverse range of ecosystems and some spectacular landscapes.  Together with many streams, trigatories and lake at the top of the maunga (mountain).

The National Park includes several sacred Māori sites and three active volcanoesRuapehu, Ngauruhoe and Tongariro. Total area 795.96 km2 9.

In 1993 Tongariro became the first property to be inscribed on the World Heritage List under the revised criteria describing cultural landscapes. The mountains at the heart of the park have cultural and religious significance for the Maori people and symbolize the spiritual links between this community and its environment.

Tongariro National Park is recognised as one of the 27 World Heritage Sites as having cultural, historical, scientific or other form of significance and is legally protected by international treaties.

Part of the Management Plan for the National Park is that the World Heritage status must full consider the strict adherence to ensure that no further building on the park would not take place

Increase in activity on Tongariro National Park because of the Gondola Service Provisions would mean they must upgrade the sewage system as it will not cater for the increase in visitors. To do this they must dig into the mountain again likely deeper and wider - this is our Tupuna (forefather) we consider it to be a living organ or person.....doesn't matter what culture you are or where you come from its not ok to CRAP" on or in your SACRED land ( would you grant me permission to do this to your child or grandchild? no one would!!!).

There is no need for further building on our sacred toanga there is enough 'CRAP' up there now!!

Maori are connected to their lands it is apart of who we are, this mountain is apart of our NZ History and was given for the enjoyment for all cultures and people near and far. It was given for the future protection.   ENOUGH IS ENOUGH - RAL YOU ALREADY MAKE MILLIONS! NOT ON OUR MAUNGA!
