Dear Huntersville community,

If you are opposed to North American Properties’ current proposals before the Huntersville Board of Commissioners, please sign this petition. We intend to use this petition as evidence to the Huntersville Town Board that while we encourage progress and growth, these two current proposals are not the right solutions.

The current property owners of Birkdale Village, North American Properties, want to increase development that exacerbates parking and traffic issues to the point that customer traffic will reduce, tenants will flee and the Village will be left empty. Now for the details….

There are two proposed changes currently sitting with the Town Board. Firstly, there is a proposal to increase the maximum height of the buildings from 48 feet to 145 feet (12 stories)! Additionally, there is a proposal, if the first is accepted, that includes the construction of a 12-story building, additional but still insufficient parking and the potential to build more 12-story structures in the future.

To make matters worse, the developers have used deceptive tactics to try and conceal this project and in at least one case, have outright lied to Huntersville homeowners just to get this approved. If this passes, what else is in store?

Lastly, if the Town Board approves such a move in Birkdale Village without considering traffic, safety, and property value depreciation, what might they do in other areas around Huntersville?

Huntersville is a great place to live and we want progress. Plans that lead to lower property values and dealing with a company bent on deception to achieve their goals is not progress.
