Say No to Plastic: AUB's Sustainable Future

The Issue

Students thoughts about Plastic Bottles use: AUB students testimonials (video)

Who is impacted?

AUB students, staff, and the environment are all impacted by the excessive use of plastic bottles on campus. Every day, thousands of students purchase up to five plastic bottles each, contributing to the growing problem of plastic waste in our environment. Plastic bottles often end up in landfills, polluting the soil and water, and harming wildlife, so we decided to reach out to them and ask if they would be happy to have new alternatives that are healthier, free, or at least cheaper and also sustainable and eco-friendly, most of the students agreed on the urge to have this implemented and seen on the ground, the reason that made us realize that it is high time for our distinguished university to have this implemented inside the campus as well, especially that this process can already be seen in so many American universities already.

Why is at stake?

At stake is the health of our planet and the well-being of future generations. The excessive use of plastic bottles is not sustainable, and it puts our environment at risk. By continuing to use plastic bottles, we are contributing to the plastic pollution crisis and the depletion of natural resources. We must act now to protect our environment and ensure a sustainable future for all, we must turn this into a permanent policy where plastic bottle use is banned inside the campus, exactly as we banned smoking.

Why is now the time to act?

AUB has the opportunity to be a leader in promoting sustainable alternatives to plastic bottles. By implementing a ban on plastic bottles and promoting the use of university bottles that can be filled in the water fountains around campus, we can reduce the amount of plastic waste generated by AUB and promote a culture of sustainability. Immediate action is necessary to protect our environment and ensure a better future for all.

What are we asking for?

We must take action now to protect our environment and promote sustainable alternatives. By banning plastic bottles on AUB campus and replacing them with AUB-branded reusable bottles that can be given for free or purchased at a low cost, we can reduce the amount of plastic waste generated. Additionally, we need more water fountains installed around campus to facilitate access to water and refill the bottles. By promoting reusable alternatives, we can reduce our carbon footprint and preserve our planet for future generations.

AUB can lead the way in promoting sustainable practices and reducing our environmental impact. By banning plastic bottles and promoting reusable alternatives, we can set an example for other universities and institutions.

We call on AUB administration to take action to ban plastic bottles and promote sustainable alternatives exactly as so many universities in all over the world did (we are talking about California University, Cambridge, Melbourne and the long list goes on...)
Let's work together to make AUB a greener and more sustainable campus.
