Dear friends / Caros amigos GALP/ENI, REPSOL/PARTEX, PORTFUEL … AND IN THE WINGS KOSMOS ENERGY Normally speaking, stopping all these organisations requires much more than one person or a team of two or three people can do. It takes a full-time army to go up against big industry, but we have managed to do so for the past 4 years with a very small team. ASMAA has been running a small operations office in Lagos (Algarve) on a very, very tight budget, manned by a small team of full-time volunteers, each already donating significant amount of time and resources - because we can’t afford to hire and pay staff. This small-unpaid team manages day-to-day activities and works with our partners to ensure the most effective and strategic campaigns are run, but we still incur costs whether we like it or not. Unfortunately we can’t run effective campaigns with no funds or limited funds, and as the fight promises to accelerate this year, having the necessary funds becomes an urgent issue. We intend to carry-on, but we do need your ongoing support as this year the fight is going to seriously intensify. Currently, we are already facing the serious threat that the planned drilling by Galp/ENI in April/May will go ahead and we have to do all we can to once again stop them placing platforms at sea this year, and we are counting on you to help us once again. Because we still have a major financial short-fall of 1846.12 euros to cover some of costs that we have already incurred in January - with printing costs due to be paid by no later than Wednesday the 11 Jan, and annual ISP (Internet) costs of 427,80 dollars due by Friday, and having to pay a few other things like traveling costs to Alentejo (2 trips), Lisbon (1 trip), etc before month end – the fact is that we do not have the money needed yet to cover all of it.
