Say No to Noise! License rock breakers- Protect our health and environment from noise
The Issue
For several years, my neighbours and I have endured relentless noise from quarrying activities operating on a farm next to our homes. Our health, mental wellbeing, and my eco-tourism business have suffered significantly due to this persistent disturbance. The noise is so intense that it can be heard for miles around, turning our peaceful countryside homes into a living nightmare. We can no longer enjoy our homes and gardens or open windows in warm weather due to noise and vibrations.
This situation is not unique. Across Ireland there are countless communities suffering from similar circumstances with rock breaking operations causing excessive noise pollution without any consideration for local residents or wildlife.
The right to live in peace within one's own home should not be compromised by these activities.
Currently in Ireland there are no noise regulations meaning anyone can operate rock breaking machinery anywhere, at any time for unlimited number of hours. Because of the absence of proper legislation governing noise pollution from activities like rock breaking and land reclamation on farmland situations like this not only disrupt human life but also pose a significant threat to our environment and permanently change irish landscape.
Exposure to high levels of noise has been linked with numerous health issues including stress-related illnesses, sleep disruption, hypertension, hearing loss, and cardiovascular disease (World Health Organization). Moreover, constant loud noises disturb wildlife habitats leading to ecological imbalance.
It's time for us to take action against this unregulated industry. We call upon our local government bodies and environmental agencies to implement licensing regulations for rock-breaking machinery operators. These licenses should ensure that operators adhere strictly to acceptable noise levels as defined by health organizations.
Furthermore, we urge for regular monitoring of these sites so that any violation of these regulations results in immediate penalties. By doing this, we can protect not only human health but also preserve the tranquility of our natural environment.
Please sign this petition if you believe in a quieter future for all residents in Ireland affected by noise. Together we can make a change!
