The Issue

The Moorcroft Library stands as a cornerstone of our community in Crook County, Wyoming, providing invaluable resources to residents of all ages. The proposed budget cuts threaten to undermine the very foundation of our library, impacting access to education, technology, and community programs that countless individuals rely on daily.

Libraries are essential public resources, offering free access to books, computers, and internet services that many in our community cannot afford otherwise. They're places of learning and growth, where children get their first taste of literature, where students supplement their education, and adults keep up with continuing education or job skills training. The Moorcroft Library also serves as a vital community hub, hosting events and workshops that bring people together, foster community spirit, and encourage civic engagement.

It's our responsibility to stand up for our library and our community. Let’s show the County Commissioners how much we value the Moorcroft Library and the role it plays in our lives. We need your support to voice this cause: please sign the petition to save our library’s budget and, with it, our community’s future.

Dear Sirs,

I am writing to you in support of the Crook County Library System with emphasis on the Moorcroft Branch Library.  I have also included signatures of others who agree with the contents of this letter.  We are asking that you reconsider the proposed cuts to the library budget.

We all use the library for what everyone probably thinks of first when they think about a library -- we check out books. My family is among the 933 individuals who have active library cards through the Moorcroft Branch Library.  We are among the patrons who have checked out almost 13,000 physical items from the Moorcroft library over the last fiscal year.

We are among the 7,471 individuals who have walked through the Moorcroft library’s doors over the last year.  We are also among the individuals who took part in Moorcroft Library offsite programs.  Programs such as Wyoming Reads and educational presentations at Keyhole State Park. We take advantage of the wide variety of other services provided by the library.  Services such as:

Notary Services
Fax & Print Services
Computer Services
Blood Pressure Testing Kits
Radon Testing Kits
Movie & Audio Books
Libby App

Our community benefits from the many programs offered by the Moorcroft Library including, but not limited to:

Storytime
After School Program
Thinking Money For Kids - Financial Literacy Programs
Youth & Adult Paint Classes
Youth & Adult Craft Classes
Teen & Adult Book Clubs

The Moorcroft Branch Library staff are welcoming and professional members of our community that strive to work for the benefit of all Crook County Residents.  They are helpful, friendly, knowledgeable, and resourceful.  They offer programs that promote literacy for all ages.  They offer services FREE of charge that many community members would not otherwise access to.

The staff provide programs and services that are necessary to help our youth grow to become informed, healthy and educated adults who are the future of our community.   They do their best to meet youth where they are.  By meeting students at local schools and daycares they are able to reach a greater number of our future  leaders.

As elected officials you have been selected by your community members to make decisions with their best interests in mind.  Libraries are essential to our community and I ask that you ensure your decisions regarding the Crook County Library System budget reflect that.  You can change your plans for the 2027 fiscal year to reflect the value that your constituents place on the library system in Crook County.
