Say no to Mitchelstown Industrial Biomethane Plant
The Issue
The proposed location for the Industrial Biomethane Plant in Mitchelstown is a serious threat to our community and environment. It is planned dangerously close to our residential dwellings, posing health risks to our families and disrupting our way of life. The plant intends to process 90,000 tonnes of animal and domestic waste annually, with plans to discharge 52,000 tonnes of treated water into our beloved river Funshion. The health of our river, its biodiversity, and the beautiful landscapes of the Galtee Mountains are at risk.
A significant increase in traffic is expected, with over 50 daily dual trips by heavy vehicles on roads that are simply not designed for such heavy congestion. Our small secondary roads cannot handle this increase, which raises substantial traffic safety concerns for both locals and commuters.
Furthermore, the plant will introduce constant ambient odours and visual disruptions, degrading the natural beauty of the Galtee Mountains and diminishing their value not only as a local amenity but as a source of pride and a significant attraction for tourists.
The health and safety of Mitchelstown residents must be a priority. The potential risks associated with this plant, including pollution and increased traffic dangers, are too great to ignore. Mitchelstown deserves responsible and sustainable developments, not projects that compromise the welfare and safety of its people and environment.
Please join us in saying No to this development by signing this petition. Together we can protect Mitchelstown and preserve its natural beauty for future generations.
