Say NO to low bail for violent offenders

Say NO to low bail for violent offenders
Why this petition matters
Imagine being 19 years old, graduating as Salutatorian of your high school class, going on to college to study for registered nursing and having your whole life ahead of you, only to be shot and killed by people you called friends. That’s the story of my niece, Camiona NaKeah Funches. On May 31, 2022, Camiona and two of her friends were going to surprise her boyfriend for his graduation party. Upon arriving, three individuals opened fire on the vehicle she was driving. The individuals shot a total of 25 times and 12 of those bullets pierced her vehicle. Camiona died at the scene and one of her friends was also shot but survived. Four days later charges were filed and my family and I discovered that one of the three individuals was out on bond for a previous murder he committed a year prior, where he shot and killed another young female. The courts released him on May 23, 2022 with a signature bond and just eight days later on May 31, 2022 he shot and killed Camiona Funches. My question is, how can someone who committed such a violent crime be out on low bail? If he was never released from jail Camiona would still be here. My solution is to revise the law so violent offenders are not released with low bail. This will prevent them from being able to reoffend while awaiting trial. I do not want to see another family devastated by the lost of their loved one due to a violent offender. Help me to get this law passed and stop a major flaw in our justice system. Please sign this petition and share with your family Camiona’s movement.
