The petition, 'Say No to LCP Brechin Quarry Application & Quarry Monopoly in Ramara Township' will be submitted to Ramara Township prior to the Monday, September 22, 2025 Ramara Township Council meeting.
The Ramara Township Council meeting on September 22, 2025 at 9:00 am will involve a motion to adopt an Interim Control Bylaw preventing any further aggregate licensing in Ramara Township for one year. This should at least slow down the proposed two million tonne per year LCP Quarry application, and any other prospective quarry license proposals within Ramara Township for one year.
The Council meeting will include a deputation emphasizing the disproportionate amount of aggregate Ramara Township is contributing to the province per capita.
The Township of Ramara is one of 25 municipalities who have declared support for a moratorium on gravel mining licensing to address the crisis revealed in the December 2023 Auditor General’s report.
The Reform Gravel Mining Coalition regularly reminds Ontario that, "The gravel mining industry is authorized to extract thirteen times more gravel every year than what we use, from more than 5,000 existing gravel mining sites in Ontario.”
Residents and tax payers of Ramara Township oppose the licensing of a new LCP Brechin Quarry in the Township of Ramara, and the proposed amendments to zoning. The approval of another huge quarry of 374.1 acres would further increase quarry monopolization of land use in the Township of Ramara. The proposed quarry near Brechin poses significant risks to our environment, health, and community growth. With ample aggregate supplies already available and many sites underused, the necessity of a new quarry is highly questionable. Our community’s vision for a vibrant, expanding Brechin should not be compromised for an unnecessary and disruptive quarry.
