There are currently 23 quarries operating in Ramara Township and more quarries operating just outside the boundaries of Ramara Township. There are 6 operating quarries in the City of Kawartha Lakes and 11 quarries operating in Severn Township and Orillia just outside the boundaries of Ramara Township. Many of these quarries operating just outside the boundaries of Ramara Township rely on road access through Ramara Township.
 
The combined area occupied by these quarries totals 2,980.86 hectares, which is 7,365.9 acres. 
 
The combined tonnage of these quarries totals 22,048,700 tonnes

There are already too many quarries located in Ramara Township and immediate surrounding area that Ramara Township residents and tax payers are forced to cope with.

Crystalline silica is the rock dust that is created from blasting, crushing and constantly moving limestone. According to the American Lung Association "There is no safe threshold to breathe in fine particles. A recent review of all available scientific evidence to date clearly shows that particle pollution is associated with increased mortality from all causes, cardiovascular disease, respiratory disease and lung cancer." Silica dust is also toxic and carcinogenic. Australia banned the manufacture of engineered stone due to health risks to workers.
