Good evening neighbors,

First, I want to say thank you to everyone for sharing the petition and getting the word out! Many of you have also purchased our lawn signs. When I see them in the neighborhood, I get so excited -- it means we are getting the message to everyone. Thank you so much for the continued support.

For those of you who are not aware, Supervisor Schaffer responded to our petition on May 14th and thanked us for our input. This is only because you are putting the pressure on him! I and the team deeply appreciate your communications, calls, emails, and letters to let our leaders know that we love our community and will not sit by and let them destroy it.

I also hope that these are not just empty words from Supervisor Schaffer. He should put some concrete action behind these words and let both Pinelawn and Bristol know that this project is a NO GO in our community. And given that the Town of Babylon has areas already zoned for industrial use; this project can and should be relocated. An even better option would be to work alongside the Town of Huntington and put the empty buildings in Melville to good use. Melville has several industrial zoned buildings less than a mile away that could be used for the various business entities seeking space.

On the legal front, we are still waiting for a ruling on our case. We have been through nine judges thus far; the first eight recused themselves. The ninth judge has not recused so we are hoping she will take the case. As soon as we get a ruling, I'll share here in an update.

It's also important to note that the Town Board in Huntington has also been sued in similar fashion (TOH residents also filed an Article 78 Petition against their Town Board). For those of you who have been following, the Town of Huntington approved a zoning change to Melville in order to create a new "Downtown" area. (You can read about it HERE.) While in theory it is a lovely idea that will bring more housing and more activity to a 'dead zone,' in practicality it is a horrible idea, because our aquifers are at capacity and cannot support thousands of new apartments. A project like what they are envisioning will severely compromise our already maxed out fresh water supply. Long Island is not New York City where abundant water flows from upstate aqueducts. We have a limited water supply that flows deep under the ground. If we compromise it, we have nothing left. Just talk to anyone who lives in Bethpage and they'll tell you.

If you live in or near Huntington, please keep up with these events as well as Town of Babylon Board decisions. This is an election year for our local politicians and now more than ever they are listening to constituents. It is a prime opportunity to make your voice heard, whether at Town Halls, Meet the Candidate Nights, or at the ballot box. Our leaders must acknowledge that we are SUBURBAN; they should stop fantasizing about turning us into Brooklyn or Queens so they can fatten the pockets of their developer friends. Long Island is a beautiful, bucolic area with private space, abundant farmland, greenery, fresh air, and clean water. We don't want to live on top of each other; that's why we moved out here.

Thank you again for your attention and for your support! Have a great weekend.
