Dear Petition Signer,
A few weeks back I sounded an alarm and passed along a petition in regards to the 2023 Texas Barber and Cosmetology legislation Senate Bill1337 and House Bill 3845 which are identical. In case you oversighted the email, these bills would deregulate practices of hairstyling and all methods of commercial hair weaving if passed. As of today's date, the petition has less than 2K (2,000) signatures which is very alarming to me. There is a goal of 200K+ (200,000+) signatures for the 2023 SB1337/HB3845 petition which would be the number of signatures that I speak to through this 2019 petition update. The Texas Barber and Cosmetology industry needs your support today because we do more than style hair!
If you have already signed the petition, the industry professionals thank you! If you have not, let me remind you of why you should.
Licensed professionals are educated in:
Anatomy and Physiology which is not only fundamental to the barber and cosmetology career, but it can also benefit both licensee and the consumer's health. A licensed professional is educated in proper hair, skin and nail services and has earned the credentials deeming them creditable on practicing safety and sanitation and on how to recognize hair and scalp conditions that are due to neglect, improper practices, and medical conditions beyond the barber and cosmetology scope of practice. (EX. Traction Alopecia, Staph Infections, AIDS/HIV Disease, and skin cancer to name a few).
Chemistry, and this knowledge simply put, provides the understanding of knowing when to use what. (EX. hair that lacks protein, post Covid hair loss, and Keloid skin to name a few)
Weaving Extension service techniques that require proper application and removal to prevent hair and scalp damage that can result into permanent hair loss. (Licensed professionals you better fight for your specialty service!!!)
Today's societal ways have produced self taught individuals that are capable of executing desired looks with the credentials stemming from "social media and You Tube education" which is not "True Education". I hope that you have read this information with the understanding that the Texas legislators are disregarding a profession that needs all scopes of its license practices regulated. These bills were read on March 16th, 2023 with the potential of moving forward if we are not heard!
Please review the petition below, support it with your signature, and share it with your Texas industry professionals, clients, family, and friends. https://www.change.org/Stop2023_Barb_Cos_Deregulation
