Greetings,
The new year is here, the month of January, and the first week of February has come and gone. I won't keep you long so let's get right down to it!
What is 2022 W-5? It is the Who, What, What, Why, and Why!
Who am I - My name is Sharla Wooten, I am a Texas licensed Cosmetologist, salon owner, and Cosmetology CE Provider for Texas, #1859, and various states. For more information click https://www.coahairgalleryceu.com/ (Come meet me in Vegas)
What I care about - I am passionate about the Barber and Cosmetology industry as well the Texas legislative changes that have taken place over the years.
- HB 2717 - The Deregulation of Braiding (Passed in the year of 2015)
- HB 1705 - The Abolishment of Barbering and Cosmetology (Attempted in the year of 2019)
- HB 2444/SB 1507, HB 2843 & HB 2847 - Reduction of Barber & Cosmetology Hours (Merged with other professions and passed in the year of 2019)
- HB 1560 - (Passed in the year of 2021) combines the Barbering and Cosmetology programs and creates a new advisory board; abolishes instructor licenses.
- abolished wig salon and wig specialty licenses (Effective September 1, 2021)
What I want to do - I want to change the way I communicate with you and create a strong Texas Barber and Cosmetology alliance.
Why I think you should care about it and why I think you should help - The state of Texas often speaks on creating a “Better Working Texas” and this concept has been applied towards the Barber and Cosmetology industry. HB 1560 has granted instructor opportunities through deregulation to licensees that may lack the experience of properly educating future Texas Barber and Cosmetology students. My observation as an experienced professional cosmetologist concluded that HB 1560 has opened the doors to create an additional influx of improper wig installations and styling that can have a lifetime effect on the very individuals that the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation is designated to protect, which is the consumer. As a licensed professional, I think you should care about this as well as the future of the industry.
The bottom line is this, The Texas Barber and Cosmetology professionals need to form an alliance that will allow our voice to be heard in numbers. By creating an alliance, the industry can be better prepared for legislation rulings such as those listed above as well as create group opportunities to enhance your business and everyday life. Your help is needed for this to take place and I will be scheduling a Zoom Call with more details soon. You are needed, your voice matters, and so does your vote!
Kind regards ~ Sharla Wooten
