Hello everyone, I just want to provide you with an update about all the things going on.
Thank you to everyone who attended the Planning Commission meeting earlier this week. Our main topic of interest (Frederick Primary Care) was only briefly discussed under the “old business” agenda item, and we were informed that Brunswick Crossings’ medical building topic will be covered in more depth at the next Planning Commission meeting on September 23. (Refer to “BR-PUD-REV-24-02” on the agenda). It’s crucial to show strong support at that meeting for the Pleasants’ proposal to put Villas/age 55+ housing on that site at 1150 Potomac View Parkway. This is important because the city has been adamant about creating “job opportunities” at that location due to its history of originally being slated as an “assisted living facility”. Showing our support for Pleasants’ proposal would be immensely helpful.
Before the September 23 meeting, I plan on submitting a copy of our petition showing resident support to officially enter it into the city record. If you haven’t already signed the digital petition, please do so, and let's aim for around 200 signatures. Additionally, hardcopy signatures are being collected, and we’ll work on digitizing those at some point.
A couple of weeks ago, a small group of us met with Pleasants to discuss our concerns and get some information about the medical site and the Enfield house. We learned that the Enfield house will now be sold as residential, and there will be more information about that in the future. Also, near the community center and volleyball courts, the retention pond is being worked on to be set up as a small park.
At that meeting, Pleasants mentioned that they’d be willing to host a meeting to discuss the 1150 Potomac View Parkway site and provide a general update about that site, similar to the “developers update” meeting that was held earlier this summer about Visa Pointe.
Action steps
- Sign and share the petition if you haven’t already at https://www.change.org/no/fcpa-building.
- Save the date and plan to attend the next Planning Commission meeting on September 23.
- If you are unable to attend the meeting, you can submit your public comments supporting Pleasants’ plan to backfill 1150 Potomac View Parkway with age-restricted Villas by emailing planningcommission@brunswickmd.gov by 12 pm ET on Sept. 23.
Thank you for all your support, and a special shout out to our super volunteers who have stepped up as leaders in this effort. Enjoy your holiday weekend.
-Gloria S.
