Say NO to Foreign Commercial fishing vessels in Kenya

The Issue

My name is Ameer and I am currently doing an exhibition project on Marine Pollution. After doing most of my research I have realized that the number one source of pollution in the ocean is caused by fishing nets. For example in the documentary called Seaspiracy I learnt that 1000 turtles die every year around the world due to plastic while 250,000 turtles die in the USA alone due to fishing nets.

Looking after the ocean and the creatures inside the ocean is important because they help the human race survive. For example when whales and dolphins come to the surface of the ocean to breathe they fertilize phytoplankton which absorbs 4 times more carbon dioxide than the Amazon rainforest and it also generates 85% of the oxygen we breathe (Seaspiracy documentary, Netflix) Furthermore commercial fishing vessels use trawling nets that can fit 13 jumbo jet planes inside them. These nets scrape the bottom of the ocean floor taking away the fishes homes and the coral reef which is a sink for carbon dioxide. The trawling also causes the pollutants that were on the ocean floor to rise up (www.sciencedirect.com A quote by Slyvia Earle who is a marine biologist in America says "No water no life no blue, no green"

We should do everything we can to stop marine pollution and save the creatures. One way we can do that is by stopping foreign commercial fishing vessels so that we can reduce the amount of pollution caused by fishing nets in the ocean. Please help me sign this petition to ask the Kenyan Government to stop the foreign fishing vessels in Kenya

PETITION LETTER

Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock, Fisheries and Co-operatives

Dear Hon CS Peter Munya,

I have been doing a research on Marine Pollution and from my research I found that fishing nets from commercial fishing vessels are the number one source of marine pollution, even more than plastics. For example 1000 turtles die every year around the world due to plastic but in the USA alone 250,000 turtles die due to fishing nets.

It is very important to save these marine creatures  and the Ocean because it is important to the survival of the Human race. The ocean is a Carbon sink and stores more carbon dioxide than the Amazon Rainforest. Marine creatures also gives us 85% of the oxygen that we breathe.

I am writing this persuasive paragraph so as to ask you to stop the foreign commercial fishing vessels from coming to Kenya which results in marine pollution and destruction of the important Marine creatures.

Yours Sincerely,

Ameer Meghji
