Say No to Destructive Quarrying : Protect Our Environment and Future
The Issue
We, the concerned citizens, are deeply troubled by the ongoing quarrying activities around the country that are harming our environment, endangering wildlife, and threatening the health and safety of our communities. The negative impacts of quarrying include soil erosion, deforestation, river and air pollution, and even landslides. The livelihood and well-being of people who live near quarry sites are also at risk, especially when heavy rain or typhoon comes, as these activities disrupt local agriculture, contaminate water supplies contribute to respiratory and other health issues due to dust and noise, and take life at some instances.
If quarrying stops it could lead to significant environmental and health benefits, allowing ecosystems to recover and improving air quality for nearby communities. Rivers, soil, and habitats would have a chance to restore naturally, benefiting local biodiversity. Additionally, residents would face fewer health risks, as dust and noise pollution would reduce. However, stopping quarrying could create economic challenges, especially for construction industries that rely on these materials, and might lead to job losses for communities dependent on quarry-related work. Balancing these outcomes would require finding sustainable alternatives and stricter quarrying regulations to protect both the environment and the economy.
It has to stop now! Our shared environment is fragile, and it is essential to protect it for future generations. Quarrying should only proceed when it can be proven safe for both the environment and the people who rely on these lands and waters. If illegal quarrying keeps on going many innocent lives will be at risk, and many innocent lives will be lost.We have to act now! If not now, then when?
