A couple of weeks ago the Dutch newspaper Trouw published a feature about my passion and many years of dedication to the ocean. In particular it discusses my current campaign to stop deep-sea mining from starting.
Why am I focussed on this particular issue?
My motivation is simple. The campaign to stop deep-sea mining from starting is one of hope and empowerment. Whilst deep-sea mining is the most terrifying industry I can think of for the ocean and us, it is entirely preventable.
We are seeing growing resistance to this reckless industry from all sectors. It is not just scientists, environmentalists and millions of concerned citizens, but also industrial fisheries, corporate tech and EV giants, and increasingly governments that are saying no to deep-sea mining.
It energises me to know that no matter where we live, what we do, or what our differences are, we can actually unite on something so important. The High Seas (half our planet) belong to no single nation and therefore belong to us all. Join me to celebrate the ocean and stop deep-sea mining!
