Say NO to Data center in Calhoun GA

Say NO to Data center in Calhoun GA
The Issue
My daughter died two years ago, and I firmly believe that PFAS contamination was the reason for her cancer. She loved the water and nature; she swam, fished, and drank the contaminated water all her life. The grief and anguish of watching her suffer were unbearable, and I don't want anyone else in Calhoun, Georgia, to witness a loved one endure such pain. Unfortunately, many families here share this tragic experience due to the toxic contamination of our environment.
Calhoun, GA is facing a catastrophic contamination crisis due to PFAS, which are man-made chemicals that have been linked to severe health issues, including cancer. The contamination primarily stems from the toxic waste generated by local carpet mills that has infiltrated our drinking water. Our city is in a state of emergency, burdened with escalating cancer rates and untimely deaths.
To make matters worse, there are plans to establish a new data center in our already beleaguered community. This addition poses the grave risk of introducing even more toxic chemicals into our environment, further jeopardizing public health and safety. Given that PFAS clean-up operations are estimated to last anywhere from 80 to 100 years, the introduction of additional pollutants is a risk we simply cannot afford to take.
The welfare of the residents must come first. Implementing a data center and risking further contamination would be a reckless move in a community already suffering so deeply. Our city officials were previously subjected to legal action due to the contamination of our drinking water, and it is clear that our infrastructure is not equipped to handle additional environmental hazards.
We urgently need to focus on cleaning up the existing pollution and preventing further harm, rather than attracting industry that could exacerbate this public health crisis. Let us choose life and sustainability over short-term economic gains that come with long-term health costs.
Please join me in urging our local government and city planners to prioritize the health and safety of Calhoun residents by saying no to the construction of new data centers. It is time we protect our community from further harm. Let's collectively choose a healthier future for the current and future generations of Calhoun citizens.
Sign this petition to express your support and demand that our local authorities take immediate action to defend the health and wellbeing of our community. Together, let's stand up for our right to a safe and clean environment.
