Say no to Breed Specific Legislation

Say no to Breed Specific Legislation
The Issue
We are calling on all the National and Local dog welfare organisations and rescues, to stand up to the governments dog breed ban and refuse to kill dogs based on their looks alone, including the thousands already vulnerable dogs in rescues. We believe that The Dog Control Coalition members, such as the RSPCA, Dogstrust and Veterinary Council, need to counteract negative and incorrect stats and propaganda in the media and educate and explain to the people and MPs why this ban and breed specific legislation is wrong and is not protecting them.
Background
For 32 years dog experts have been saying the Dangerous Dogs Act is broken, yet we continue to see temporary ineffective patches being made, but with a continued refusal to "follow the science" and change the law. So when will MPs stop to actually fix the problem properly? Sadly, this legislation causes a great deal of suffering to both the animals and their families, who may be innocently caught up in a law that fails to address the real issues of dog aggression and a government who steadfastly refuse to listen.
The Dog Control Coalition, comprising RSPCA, Dogstrust, Blue Cross, Hope Rescue, Kennel Club and the British Veterinary Council, all experts on dog behaviour and welfare, have come together under this one banner to campaign against Breed Specific Legislation. They've worked hard and have supplied the government with statistics and advice on dog control and furnished them with the necessary evidence to demonstrate that BSL is ineffective. In fact they recently made the decision to step away from the conversation with the MPs, as they felt they were not being listened to.
Their reputations as experts is undisputed, but they are also ANIMAL WELFARE organisations and as such they have a DUTY to stand up for all the innocent dogs that will die at the hands of Thérèse Coffey and Rishi Sunak.
So...here's "the thing" for the last 32 years the members of Dog Control Coalition have been advising the government that BSL has not worked and is not working, because it has not reduced bites or attacks. So, perhaps they need to re-consider their approach, are they preaching to the wrong audience? Maybe they need to launch a counter attack to all the negative media stories and propaganda about these breeds and tell the people in the streets....and the parks that they don't need to be afraid of our dogs. Perhaps they need to bypass MPs that are clearly not listening and take the issue to the people who put those MPs in Parliament? The VOTERS. After all, the MPs are there on our behalf, if they are listening to their constituency, as is their job, they can see that nearly 600k signatures against a ban, verses 28k for a ban. The peoples verdict is very clear, there is no ambiguity.
Our politicians and the police are responsible for "typing" what they believe is an XL Bully, which they are clearly not qualified to do. There is now suggestions of the need to expand restrictions to even more breeds, that are very common pets, some examples being GSDs, Rottweilers and SBTS, along with all of their crosses. They are avoiding mentioning the thousands of innocent dogs that will die in rescues immediately when this ban comes into force.
Given that we are in the middle of what may turn out to be at best, an animal welfare catastrophe, at worst, a dog holocaust, they must put aside their Christmas giving campaigns and the "leave us in your will adverts" even the "best in show" is not important right now...all attention and focus needs to go into educating people on how wrong BSL really is. If they are not being heard, they need to raise their voices...as animal advocates, why are they not on the rooftops shouting about this injustice, why are they not shoulder to shoulder with us in the streets...why are we being left to fight alone? WHY?!
We are asking any and all of you, that believe BSL is wrong, that believe we still live in a democracy, to contact the members of the coalition, such as the RSPCA and Dogstrust etc.
I think we deserve to know, we deserve to know what they are going to do now? Now that their emails and reports have clearly been ignored by government, will they continue to sit and discuss it...OR....will they step up their campaigns? Will we start to see TV commercials and Facebook posts condemning BSL? Will they refuse to put, healthy, well behaved, non-aggressive dogs down, because of how they measure or look. OR..... WILL THEY STAND UP AND BE COUNTED? Will they stand by the ethical and moral code of "NEVER PUTTING A HEALTHY DOG DOWN"
Please take to twitter, email them, phone them...message and text them...ask them...what now? HOW WILL THEY HELP ALL THESE INNOCENT SOULS?!
PLEASE SIGN THIS PETITION, TOO MANY DOGS HAVE DIED NEEDLESSLY ALREADY.
Thank you for caring.
