The issue

My life, as well as the lives of others in the Willoughby City, are being greatly affected by the impending regulation: Notice of Motion 09/2025 - Amendment of Development Control Plan to Protect Indoor Air Quality by Preventing Connection of Gas Appliances. This motion, proposed by Councillor John Moratelli for the Willoughby City Council meeting on 28th April 2025, feels like an unnecessary intervention in our lives. Residential energy consumption is, and should remain, a private decision.

No government, particularly not local ones, should dictate how we should choose to live, especially when there are few alternatives presented. I believe, as many of us do, that this is an issue for State and Federal Governments to handle. They have the funds, resources, and power to implement changes that respect our freedoms while considering environmental impacts.

The implications of restricting gas appliances are far-reaching. Millions of households rely on gas for cooking and heating. A sudden change would create an unnecessary burden, financially and logistically, for numerous families already facing significant hardships.

I urge you to consider the personal impact of this action. Each signature on this petition represents a plea for freedom of choice, instead of top-down imposition without providing alternatives. Therefore, let's speak up and ensure our voices are heard. Make your voice count. Sign this petition to oppose the Notice of Motion 09/2025.
