Say NO to a major sewage plant at Clover Point Park

The Issue

The Capital Regional District is proposing a major sewage treatment plant at Clover Point Park that will cost at least $250 million more than a single-plant option. This will cost taxpayers hundreds of extra dollars per year. Say no!

Construction would rip open a massive hole the size of a football field and eliminate park use for years. It would likely be classified as a hazardous work location. Drilling and blasting would go on for months, along with construction noise, traffic and dust affecting any visitor or resident travelling or living in the area. Say no!

The Clover Point Park proposal is expensive, unsafe, untested and inconceivable for a residential neighbourhood and popular tourist attraction. An underground plant will pose huge and costly engineering challenges. Say no!

We demand that Victoria council reject the plans and any rezoning application forwarded for this project.

In addition to signing the petition, please call and write Victoria’s mayor and council to have your voice heard.

Responded
Thanks to all who have signed so far for engaging in the dialogue. We look forward to a continued dialogue on this proposed project, starting with a community meeting in late April so all decision makers can hear your concerns, worries and ideas. Stay tuned for more information on date and location. We're aiming to make the process transparent and inclusive. On that note, I attach a link for the first phase of public engagement from April to July 2015. (https://www.crd.bc.ca/docs/default-source/Wastewater-Planning-2014/150714-eastsideconsultationreportwappendicesjuly2015.pdf?sfvrsn=4) It is a long document, to be sure - you'll see that there was an in depth public process. You'll also note if you scan to through the emails sent (at the end of the document) that there was some support for Clover Point, which, when Cook St Village merchants vocally opposed Rock Bay because of the need to convey sewage down Cook Street TO Clover Point, was part of the rationale for going back to Clover Point, as a POTENTIAL site. As in potential because no decision made and we need your input and support.
