The Issue

We, as residents of Triana, Alabama, and surrounding Madison County communities, strongly oppose the proposed construction of a gas station at the corner of Wall Triana Highway and Beadle Lane.

This project would bring unnecessary health, safety, and quality-of-life risks to our growing residential area — and it does not reflect the kind of thoughtful development our community deserves.

⚠️ Why We’re Saying NO
1. Health & Environmental Hazards
Gasoline contains benzene, a toxic chemical and known carcinogen that can be released into the air during fuel deliveries and when vehicles refuel. Even low-level exposure to benzene over time has been linked to leukemia and other blood disorders. Building a gas station so close to homes and families with young children puts our community’s health directly at risk.

2. Dangerous Traffic Conditions
The intersection of Wall Triana Highway and Beadle Lane already faces heavy congestion and frequent near-accidents — especially during school and commuter hours. Adding the constant flow of vehicles turning in and out of a gas station would make this area significantly more dangerous for residents, pedestrians, and school buses traveling to and from the nearby neighborhoods.

3. Increased Crime & Limited Law Enforcement Resources
Gas stations often attract loitering, petty theft, and vandalism — especially when open late at night. Triana already faces limited police presence and patrol coverage, and a gas station would stretch those resources even thinner, reducing overall safety for residents and local businesses.

4. Noise & Light Pollution
The nonstop hum of cars, delivery trucks, and bright overhead lighting would disrupt the quiet, family-friendly character of our community. Residents near Beadle Lane and Wall Triana deserve peace, not a constant commercial disturbance.

5. Decline in Property Values
Studies across the U.S. show that homes located near gas stations suffer lower property values due to pollution, noise, and safety concerns. Families who have invested in Triana’s future will see their property values and neighborhood appeal diminish if this project moves forward.

🏡 Protect the Future of Triana
Our town is growing, but growth should be smart, safe, and community-oriented — not hazardous to residents. We support responsible development that enhances Triana’s charm and livability, not projects that jeopardize health, safety, and property values.
