Subject: Requesting “Shelter Home” for our society’s Stray Dogs
It has come to my notice that our society has a few stray dogs who live within the premises of our society, and I have also seen a few dog lovers feeding them on a constant basis because of which this society has become more of a permanent home to these stray dogs. I myself am an animal lover and could never imagine to see any such creature in pain or distress of any kind, I have seen a lot of comments being passed on society’s WhatsApp groups that these dogs should be kept out of the society or feeders should stop feeding them etc. and I can also imagine from where such emotions have arrived, the core reason is that we live in a society where we have a mix of individuals, people who love dogs and then folks who are petrified of them, for various valid reasons.
I have done my research and have come up to an understanding that feeding the dogs is every citizen’s fundamental right and similarly not getting thrown out of their existing home is theirs. Our constitution provides them the right to live where they love to be, and no one is authorized to put them away. However, on the other hand, the constitution provides the right to every citizen of not getting harassed by any of such animal lovers or dogs itself, and this brings us to a contradictory and complex situation of who to be honored, a dog or a human being. I would say both, and this is why through this application I am suggesting a solution, which again is not really my original idea but comes straight from our Indian law which has been made for these loving animals.
Proposed Solution as guided by Indian Constitution:
- RWA shall form an internal group for animal welfare in the society and they can choose its active members (4-6 individuals) from the society itself.
- RWA shall prepare and keep a designated area within or right outside the premises of the society, which can help keep the dogs at a safe distance, where no one can cause them any harm and feeders can continue to feed in peace without any conflicts with any of the society residents.
- RWA animal welfare group shall ensure that these society dogs are properly/regularly vaccinated.
- RWA animal welfare group is required to ensure that these dogs are neutered, so their count doesn’t increase in future.
- RWA is to take care of all the expenses in case an animal is ever found hurt or needs any immediate medical attention.
- RWA animal welfare group should be allowed to take donations and perform charity acts to raise money for this cause, whenever required.
The idea here is to introduce and maintain a balance between the residents and the strays, as we all creatures of nature and shall learn the ways of coexistence in peace and harmony. Hereby, I request everyone who supports this move and sign this application, and I welcome all the animal lovers and people who feel scared to be open to something new, something which empowers each being and provides equal respect and care.
