These trees are considered Heritage Trees that range in age from 75 to 175 years old. Originally they were planted after the initial clear cutting of Gulf Hills. They have withstood multiple major hurricanes, including Hurricane Camille (1969), Hurricane Elena (1985), Hurricane Frederic (1979), Hurricane Ivan (2004), Hurricane Katrina (2005), and countless other powerful tropical systems!

These trees are landmark trees, which are very important to the region; without them, it will cause a ripple effect on our already fragile ecosystems. These certain trees include endangered species habitats, such as: ivory billed woodpeckers, red-cockaded woodpeckers, pileated woodpeckers, redheaded woodpeckers, gopher tortoises, eastern indigo snakes, bobwhite quail, flying squirrels and Many Others!!!

Our land is known for its beautiful natural flora and fauna, why would anyone in their right state of mind want to clear cut these MAGNIFICENT HERITAGE TREES??? For more housing development, for more concrete, for more power lines, et cetera is the answer; we beg to differ!! It’s high time we start incorporating and honoring  what was here prior to our own existence with Respect, Unity, and Grace!!!    

By cutting these Incredible Giants, not only would we be losing landmarks that make Gulf Hills and Our Gulf Coast so very special; it would rob future generations of inspiration, beauty and hopes of what can grow into Natural Art!!! 

Of course, trimming these “flagged” trees would be acceptable to allow for utilities, homes, driveways, and infrastructures to clear passage. Some are leaning and/or rotten inside, which would need removal.  But to fully remove them all, including the healthy ones would be a travesty, and probably would be regretted. I implore you to  Consider Signing this petition!!!!! PLEASE KEEP OUR HERITAGE TREES and FRAGILE ECOSYSTEMS ALIVE AND HEALTHY!!!!
