Save Riksglasskolan – The National School of Glass

We, students of Riksglasskolan in Nybro, are calling for your support.

Our school is under serious threat of closing due to continued budget cuts and the decision to reduce 1.4 teacher positions. This puts not only our education and well-being of students and teachers at risk, but also Sweden’s glass heritage and the craft of glassblowing in itself.

Riksglasskolan is the only national glass school (including an international program) left in Sweden and one of few left in Europe. It is vital for preserving this unique craft and the cultural identity of Glasriket – a region built on glass. Cutting staff while student numbers increase will drastically reduce education quality and create unhealthy pressure on both teachers and students.

This school is not just an expense – it's an investment in culture, education, and local development. We are therefore urging to stop the need for cutting costs to the faculty and securing long-term support from officials.
