PLEASE JOIN US: WHAT: Protest of demolition of Our Lady of Loreto and Diocesan abuse of public funds Brownsville Cultural Coalition and allies will protest against demolition of Our Lady of Loreto, a historic church owned by the Diocese of Brooklyn. We will picket in front of the Cipriani Wall Street where the Bishop’s 2017 Humanitarian Award Dinner, sponsored by Catholic Charities, will be taking place. In 2010, the Diocese of Brooklyn and their real estate arm, Catholic Charities, received millions of dollars from New York State and New York City to build housing on the property of Our Lady of Loreto. As a condition for this grant, Catholic Charities was required to preserve the historic church building. Now Catholic Charities and the Diocese of Brooklyn are attempting to demolish the historic building. Community members and advocates want the building to be converted into a much-needed performance space. Please join us in demonstrating against this abuse of taxpayer money. WHEN: Wednesday, June 28, 2017 at 5 p.m. WHERE: Cipriani (55 Wall Street, New York, NY 10005)
