Saving Bermuda's Misunderstood Dog Breeds: Stop Breed-Specific Legislation (BERMUDA SIGNATURES ONLY PLEASE)

The Issue

Be part of the movement to save Bermuda's misunderstood breeds! Sign the petition urging Government to move forward with reviewing and revising the breed-specific legislation set in this country on many of our larger breed dogs including Pitbulls, American Bulldogs, Rottweilers and numerous others.

Our aim is not to lose control over the dog breeds of Bermuda but rather to eliminate government-appointed discrimination placed onto specific dogs. A revision of the legislation could benefit society by setting effective and realistic standards and regulations for all dog owners to abide by. Rather than hold innocent dogs accountable, we urge Government to focus on owners and their roles in the upbringing of their pets.

Prior to Bermuda's breed-specific dog ban extensive crimes were committed and ruthless acts carried out by a small delinquent group of individuals which contributed to the creation of the current legislation and the demise of the purity of these breeds. This movement denounces any and all criminal activity and strongly encourages the correct model for justice be put in place for violators of such acts.

Like a child, all dogs require some degree of training, socialization and love. It all starts with us as humans to step up and do the right thing. We have the chance to make a change; and we have a chance to save our breeds. By signing this petition, you are showing government that the chance to move forward is now.

We are hopeful that the Government of Bermuda will listen to its people and hear the urgency in our voices. We are fighting to stop the killing of innocent dogs and to instead focus on a solution to control the population and upbringing of all breeds. We urge Government to: (1) Lift the breed-specific dog ban, (2) Create a Government department focused not on killing innocent dogs but rather on rehabilitating aggressive dogs, educating dog owners, and training the breeds, and (3) Set regulations for dog ownership such as the approval of 'responsible' persons to own what are considered 'high risk' breeds.

Sign the petition and make the first step forward!!

Our MisunderstoodPetition StarterOur Misunderstood is focused on the social stigmatization on many of our larger dog breeds in Bermuda. Legislation of banning certain breeds must be reviewed and revised. It has been long enough for our beloved pets (large and small, quiet and loud, legal and not) to be stereotyped, stigmatized, and neglected under the Bermuda government. Our goal is to bring about an open-mindedness surrounding certain dog breeds that will only come from a move away from a society that focuses on banning and killing and instead move towards a society of acceptance and rehabilitation.
