My name is Jason, and I’m part of the Civic Engagement Team at Change.org. Our mission is to connect petition supporters with decision makers and to help foster healthy civic engagement in our communities.
As part of that work, we reached out to officials at the Lockport Township Park District regarding the petition “Saving a Section of the Park from Becoming a Parking Lot (Not the Full Park).”
The Executive Director of the Park District shared that some of the information circulating about this project may not be accurate. They explained that the plan is not to remove the entire park, but rather to add a small 14-space parking lot while keeping the rest of the park intact. The official provided drawings of the planned improvements to clarify the scope of the project (see update image).
We know that people start, sign, and share petitions in good faith and with the intention of improving their community. The public official from the park district has asked us to share his contact information with the petition starter so they can clarify the plans for the park and ensure supporters have the most accurate information moving forward.
Our goal is to make sure conversations like this are informed and constructive, so your voices can have the greatest impact.
