The poppy fields of the western Antelope Valley are being destroyed by solar power companies placing their panels where the flowers naturally grow. The destruction of the beautiful fields covered in the state flower of California is not the only problem. An increase in valley fever cases, destruction of wildlife habitat, unbelievable amounts of dust, and obstructed views are all major issues caused by solar power construction. Many solar projects are already completed and broken ground already. Can you imagine how horrible it will be when all of the currently planned projects are completed? The only place to see poppies will be on the protected reserve.

By signing this petition, you help show solidarity with the residents of the western Antelope Valley in stopping the construction of these problematic solar fields. If you are a Los Angeles County resident or just love to visit these beautiful flowers, please share your signature!

This is not a petition against green energy. This is a petition to save the natural beauty of our unique desert.

Comments from residents of Antelope Acres, California:

"Some historical facts: in the early 1970's, the state conducted a study and it showed that the western end of the Antelope Valley was where the California poppies bloom the most consistently throughout the entire state. That is why the Poppy Reserve is here. Jane Pinheiro and other members of the Lancaster Women's Club started fund raising to buy the land to protect the poppies. That the city of Lancaster is selling out the AV to solar companies is a travesty. THIS is the best place for the poppies to bloom and they are destroying it. I will email you a video I shot a few days ago in the poppy field on L and 80th that is right next to a solar field."

"Both my aussie dogs  have Valley Fever thanks to the unearthed soil .costly medication to save them .These solar installation must stop in this valley before we all get sick .I had to be tested as well"

"If Antelope Valley is so important to Rex and he wants to make it look nice he will ruin our image by these solar plants he will kill the beauty that is left in this town! He thinks it’s a good idea?! My friend who grew up in this town moved and came home the other day she seen these fields and almost started to cry! They want to make Lancaster sound so beautiful on the commercials but are making it ugly behind the scenes! Don’t touch my Daym land!!!!!!!! You made it ugly enough!"

"Kern county is doing a study because of the increase in Valley Fever. They sure can’t blame the agriculture dust here in AV due to the fact they have run most of the farmers out . I know that S Power has it in their paperwork that all their farms are suppose to be landscaped around their farms and I can not find one that has any. It doesn’t say in there we will plant once and not care of it so it dies and we done. It says will maintain drought tolerant landscaping around perimeter"

" ...What about higher incidences of Valley Fever? My brother is an Acres resident who was diagnosed a couple of years ago and is convinced it’s due to all of the dust being stirred up by the construction of the solar farms. He’s been active in trying to fight them and most recently attended meetings to try to at least get them to be “good neighbors”."
