Save York Gardens, Wandsworth, London

The Issue

York Gardens SW11 is one of the very few green spaces left in our area.

Wandsworth Council and Taylor Wimpey builders plan to concrete over this historic site. They are refusing to build this on a large area of brown land - where Pennethorne House (large old block) is being knocked down first.

They want to build on green area and destroy about 50 trees for a leisure centre and expensive residential blocks. They say that they will rebuild new park on the brown site but it will take decades before it is ready. Our children would be deprived of green space to exercise.

We want them to keep the green space and build on the large brown site instead.

Once the green area is gone, it's gone forever. Please help us to save York Gardens and sign this petition.

The Decision Makers

Sadiq Khan
Mayor of London
Responded
Dear Petitioner Thank you for the petition submitted on the change.org website about York Gardens. The Mayor was consulted on the proposals for the land to the North of Grant Road as part of the Stage 1 referral process, and his response can be found on the City Hall website at: www.london.gov.uk/what-we-do/planning/planning-applications-and-decisions/planning-application-search/land-north-grant-road. Following consideration by Wandsworth's planning committee, under the Mayor of London Order, the Council must consult the Mayor as part of the Stage 2 referral process where the Mayor must decide whether to allow the Committee's decision to proceed, direct refusal or take over the application for his own determination. At this stage, in the absence of having formally considered the Stage 2 application, he is not in a position to comment publicly on the application ahead of the decision-making process. But please rest assured that the comments raised by yourself, and other consultees and respondents will be taken into account when the time comes for him to consider the application again in due course. The above application, forms an enabling stage of the wider York Road/Winstanley Estate Regeneration which is currently subject to pre-application discussions. It will be expected that this proposal will conform with the Mayor’s Better Homes for Local People: The Mayor’s Good Practise Guide to Estate Regeneration. The Mayor will take your views into account when a planning application is submitted. In the meantime, please direct any concerns on the regeneration of the wider estate to Wandsworth Council who it is understood are currently undertaking public consultation on the proposed estate regeneration. Information on public engagement on the scheme can be found through the following link: www.winstanleyyorkroad.co.uk/engagement.php. I hope this clarifies the situation at this time. Yours sincerely Public Liaison Unit Greater London Authority
