Dear Nicole Corrado:

Thank you for your emails of June 18, 2025, addressed to the Honourable Tamara Davidson, Minister of Environment and Parks, regarding a bear in Golden Ears Park. Minister Davidson has asked that I respond on her behalf.

Since the beginning of the 2025 camping season, there has been an increase in bear sightings in Golden Ears Park. BC Parks has maintained signage throughout the area to inform visitors about active bear locations. Signs are posted at kiosks and at each picnic table in the campgrounds, emphasizing the importance of managing attractants and warning of potential fines and evictions for non-compliance with park rules. Additionally, the Park Operator provides information to each group during check-in, reinforcing the importance of proper attractant management and conducting regular patrols in both the day-use areas and campgrounds.

Regrettably, one bear appears to have become habituated to human presence in the park. Despite the best efforts to manage attractants, there have been multiple incidents of this bear entering occupied campsites.

BC Parks and the Park Operator will continue to monitor the situation and support visitor education, as well as take compliance and enforcement where warranted. We are committed to promoting the safety of Golden Ears Park and its visitors, and any action taken regarding the bear will be made with careful consideration of wildlife and visitor well-being.

Thank you again for taking the time to write.

Sincerely,

Jennie Aikman for

When the food is gone, the bears move on.
