The Issue

My partner is currently incarcerated, and the support we've received from the West Yorkshire Community Chaplaincy Project (WYCCP) in Leeds has been invaluable. They have provided us with guidance, advocacy, and emotional support during one of the most challenging periods of our lives. For families like mine, WYCCP is not just a resource—it's a lifeline.

WYCCP Leeds specializes in assisting families and men affected by incarceration. The service offers a safe space for those who often feel isolated and vulnerable, lacking adequate support. Through counselling, practical advice, and access to vital resources, WYCCP helps reduce the strain on families, ensuring that they have somewhere to turn to when they need it most.

The closure of WYCCP Leeds would mean the loss of a crucial service that has been proven to help families navigate the complexities of having a loved one in prison. According to government studies, families of incarcerated individuals are at a higher risk of mental health issues, financial instability, and social isolation. WYCCP directly addresses these challenges by providing dedicated support.

Furthermore, the effects of incarceration extend beyond the individual to the wider community. When families do not receive the support they need, it can lead to long-term societal issues such as intergenerational cycles of crime and poverty. WYCCP's work helps break this cycle by promoting stability and resilience within affected families.

Our goal is to ensure that WYCCP Leeds can continue its vital work, supporting families during some of their darkest times. We call on local government bodies and community leaders to acknowledge the impact of WYCCP and secure its future funding and operation.

Please sign this petition to help ensure that WYCCP Leeds remains open and continues providing crucial support to families and men affected by incarceration. Your signature can make a real difference in keeping this essential service available for those who need it most.
