So. 2,200 signatures. Thankyou to everyone who has signed and shared this petition. You are sending a very loud and clear message to Age UK that Woodcot matters.
HOWEVER….!!!!!!
Not everyone feels this way.
For some reason there are those who seem to think it’s ok for Age UK to sell this beautiful property and its fabulous gardens out of charitable ownership- to one lucky family. ‘It will boost Age UK’s coffers’ is the flawed thinking.
Well here’s the thing: what about the residents who live there? Don’t they matter? They were promised a home for life.
What about the promise made to Miss Jennings who gave -yes GAVE- her family home for the good of others. To a charity that she thought would honour her wishes? Does that not matter anymore? Does Age UK’s bottom line matter more than that?
What about the enormous hole it will leave in the community of Salcombe ? Where will the local charities hold their fundraisers? Who will be able to wander the beautiful grounds and woodland on the bi monthly Open Days ? Don’t these things matter?
Of course they do. Which is why this petition matters.
Age UK do a good job- all charities do, but if they no longer want Woodcot -they MUST pass it to another charity. They cannot be allowed to sellout to a rich individual. It is unthinkable. Unconscionable.
JUST PLAIN WRONG.
Over 2,000 people think so…. So please share this petition again. This matters. Doing the right thing matters.
