This petition serves as a call to Akron City Council members to slow down and take time on the proposed development of the White Pond Drive property. The sale would involve 65 acres of land, including glacial wetlands and upland forested areas. The proposed development would include retail space, a drive-thru, 56 apartments, and 189 townhomes. All residential properties would be rental, with rent between $1,600-2,300/month. Citizens of Akron are concerned about increased traffic, economic impact, the chosen developer, tax abatements, unaffordable housing, and many ecological/environmental concerns. With so many unanswered questions and unaddressed concerns, we are asking that the City take time to find a better path forward. 

The undersigned citizens of Akron, Ohio petition Akron City Council to POSTPONE ANY VOTE on any White Pond Reserve Development legislation UNTIL APRIL 30th 2023. In that extended time, City officials can work with residents to inform the entire community about the development proposal and allow for a series of community meetings to be hosted so Council members can listen to and understand the many community concerns being raised. We humbly ask City officials to take time.
