West Park Skatepark is the heartstring of the Ventura skateboarding community. After a 3-year fight for an EXPANSION of the park, a $2 million grant was achieved. We assumed the skatepark contractor was going to listen to the community; rather, they sought to demolish it and start fresh.

West Park is a one-of-a-kind skatepark with generations of history. Its unique design makes it feel like a genuine skate spot, not just another park. We never thought that our fight for expansion would lead to its ultimate and untimely destruction. This is a classic tale of a community doing the hard work of fighting for something with intent (expansion) and then once the money was secured, those in power gave no voice to those who made it all possible.

We ask that the city of Ventura and the contractor give our community justice by leaving the 3,200 square feet West Park intact and using the remaining 16,800 square feet to build an awesome new skatepark.
