Save Wattle Hill Kindergarten from Closure

The issue

Currently located on the Wattle Park Primary School site, Wattle Hill Kindergarten has been a cornerstone of the Burwood community since the 1950s, providing early childhood education in a nurturing environment. Generations of families have entrusted their children to this beloved institution, relying on the care and expertise of its outstanding educators. These educators have consistently exceeded national standards and provided nurturing environments where children and their families have felt supported and cherished. Our community, past and present, is deeply invested in the continuation of this essential service.

However, over the last two years, Wattle Hill Kindergarten has encountered significant building challenges, resulting in two relocations. Each move has strained the community's cohesion, contributing to a decline in attendance. Now, facing the necessity for a new, suitable building, the Victorian Department of Education has proposed closing Wattle Hill, arguing that nearby kindergartens have enough capacity to absorb the displaced students.

This decision, while perhaps pragmatic from a logistical standpoint, fails to recognize the unique value and irreplaceable role that Wattle Hill Kindergarten plays in our community. Such a loss would not only impact current and future generations but also erase a rich history of educational excellence and community spirit.

We understand the importance of efficient resource allocation; however, we believe that with proper community engagement and innovative solutions, Wattle Hill Kindergarten can continue to thrive. We call for the Victorian Department of Education to reconsider their decision, taking into account community feedback and actively working with us to find feasible alternatives to closure.

By supporting this petition, you are advocating for the preservation of an invaluable community resource, the continuity of quality early childhood education, and the well-being of families in our area. The closure of Wattle Hill would not just be the end of a kindergarten, but the loss of a cherished community treasure.

Please join us in urging the Victorian Department of Education to keep Wattle Hill Kindergarten open for future generations of children and families. Help us preserve the legacy of Wattle Hill, so it may continue to bless our community for many more years to come. Sign this petition to stand with us in this crucial cause.
