Save Walsh Middle School’s Theater Program

Save Walsh Middle School’s Theater Program
The Issue
The theater program at Walsh Middle School has been a crucial escape from reality for countless students, including myself. It's a space where we express our creativity, build confidence, and learn teamwork, all while finding solace from daily challenges. This program isn't just about acting or performing; it's about personal growth, emotional well-being, and building a community.
Unfortunately, the school administration is considering eradicating this invaluable program and dismissing one of our dedicated theater teachers. This decision threatens not only our creative outlet but also the supportive environment that we have all come to cherish. For many students, the theater program is where they've found their voice and a sense of belonging.
Theater arts are more than just an extracurricular activity; they're a vital component of a well-rounded education. Studies have shown that students involved in the arts tend to excel academically, exhibit better social skills, and are more engaged in school. Eliminating this program would mean depriving students of these opportunities and benefits.
Moreover, the decision to dismiss one of our beloved theater teachers and send them to another school with in our district further exacerbates the impact, as it not only affects students emotionally but also undermines the quality and richness of the theater program itself. Teachers play an instrumental role in student development, and losing one of them would be a direct hit to the program’s effectiveness. The other theatre teacher we have would be overwhelmed by having to deal with classes that the two theater teachers would deal with.
We urge the Walsh Middle School administration & Our Principal Rudy Reyes to reconsider this decision. Preserve the theater program and retain our teacher, for the sake of current and future students’ development and well-being. By signing this petition, you are supporting the continued presence of the theater program and advocating for the invaluable role it plays in shaping students' lives. Please help us keep this important part of our school's culture alive.
